Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Scholarship
Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr., who lettered in football at the University of Georgia in 1929-1930, established the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Scholarship. The award is given to a child or grandchild of a University of Georgia letterman for academic excellence. Each year Frank Lumpkin’s son and daughter present the scholarship on their father’s behalf during a home football game
The organization will raise the funds through your contribution, special events, and activities around the state. All donations to the Foundation Scholarship Fund are tax deductible as allowed by law.
Jimmy Payne Football Lettermen's Hardship Application
In 1999 the Georgia Football Lettermen raised money for the purpose of providing financial assistance in an effort to save the life of Jimmy Payne. Jimmy was a five (5) year lettermen who played under Coach Dooley in the late 70's and early 80's. Leukemia cost Jimmy his life; however, a fund was established by the Georgia Football Lettermen's Club for the purpose of providing financial assistance to needy football lettermen who find themselves under hardship conditions. How Can You Make a Difference?
Support the Georgia Lettermen Education Foundation. Your participation is more important than the size of your gift. Your contribution can take several forms:
- Cash
There is no easier way to garner a charitable deduction and support us at the same time than simply writing a check! Most gifts made to us are in the form of cash, through a check written by the donor. If you itemize, your outright gifts of cash are fully deductible for federal income tax purposes up to 50% of your adjusted gross income. If your total gifts should exceed this limitation, the excess may be carried forward for tax purposes for up to five additional years.
Please mail all checks to:
Georgia Lettermen's Education Foundation
P.O. Box 749
Watkinsville, GA 30677
- Securities
Giving appreciated stock offers you a two-fold tax savings. First, you avoid paying any capital gains tax on the increased value of your stock. In addition, you receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift. For income tax purposes the value of such gifts may be deducted up to 30% of adjusted gross income, with an additional five-year carry forward.
Example: If you purchased some stock many years ago for $1,000, and it is now worth $10,000, and outright gift of that stock to us would result in a charitable deduction of $10,000. In addition, you permanently avoid paying capital gains tax on the $9,000 of appreciation.
If you are interested in donating securities to GLEF please call Mack at (706) 316-3742 ex: 205.
- Planned Giving Options
While considering your tax savings, this may also be a good time to consider seeking the counsel of your tax or financial advisor to discuss a gift, which may benefit the Georgia Lettermen Education Foundation and the scholarship program in future years. A gift through your will or a number of other life income options may allow you the opportunity for estate tax savings and even generate lifetime income for you and your spouse, while at the same time leaving a significant future gift for the Lettermen Education Foundation. We encourage you to contact your advisors for more information on these types of gifts which will allow you to fulfill your charitable gift intentions, while preparing for your family’s future interests.
